Volunteers Week June 2026

From Monday 1 June to Sunday 7 June 2026, communities across the UK are coming together to mark Volunteers’ Week, a national celebration of the people who give their time, energy and skills to help others. Running since 1984, Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to recognise the enormous contribution volunteers make every day in charities, schools, hospitals, community groups, sports clubs and neighbourhood projects. It is also a chance to inspire more people to get involved and discover the many benefits of volunteering for themselves and others.

Volunteers are often the quiet force behind stronger, kinder and more connected communities. They support food banks, mentor young people, visit isolated residents, raise funds, organise events and keep local services running. In many organisations, volunteers bring not only practical help, but also compassion, creativity and lived experience. Their contribution can be felt in countless ways: a friendly welcome, an extra pair of hands, a listening ear, or the confidence they help build in someone who needs support.

Volunteers’ Week matters because it shines a spotlight on this impact. In a busy world, it can be easy to overlook the everyday acts of generosity that keep communities thriving. This week reminds us to pause and say thank you. It also helps highlight the diversity of volunteering. People of all ages and backgrounds volunteer in different ways, whether that is once a year at a local event or every week in a regular role. Every contribution matters big or small, and every hour given can make a huge difference.

Volunteering also benefits the people who take part. It can build confidence, develop skills, create friendships and provide a sense of purpose. For many, it is a way to give back to a cause they care about while becoming part of something bigger than themselves. That is why Volunteers’ Week is not only about celebration, but also about encouragement. It is a chance to share stories, recognise achievements and open the door for others to take that first step into volunteering.

So as a closing thought, please let us know about any voluntary work that you do or would like to do moving forward, If so, thank you for your contribution and the time that you choose to give – this week is a celebration of everything you do and this week is a celebration of you – Thank you.
