GCSE Results Day is fast approaching and here at UKTD we would like to wish anyone reading this and currently waiting to hear, the very best of luck. This year it falls on Thursday 20th August and in England and students are typically able to pick up their results from their education provider from 8am onwards with many students having the option to access their results through the Digital Education Record from 11am onwards.
Official predicted pass rates for the 2026 GCSE exams are not published in advance, but results are expected to remain stable and close to the pre-pandemic standards seen between 2023 and 2025. For 16-year-olds in England, the standard pass rate (Grade 4 / C and above) typically hovers around 75% With BBC Bitesize agreeing that the three hardest subjects being listed as English Language, Mathematics and Combined Sciences (double award).
Next Steps And The Apprenticeship Route.
Here at UKTD we provide and support apprenticeships in both hairdressing and barbering. For a school leaver who enjoys being creative, practical and working with people, a hairdressing apprenticeship can be an excellent first step into a rewarding career. One of the biggest benefits is the chance to earn while learning. Instead of studying full time without an income, an apprentice works in a real salon, gains experience and develops confidence with clients from the beginning.
An apprenticeship also gives school leavers valuable hands-on training. Hairdressing is a skill that improves through practice, so learning in a salon helps apprentices understand how to shampoo, condition, cut, style and colour hair safely and professionally. They can watch experienced stylists, ask questions and gradually take on more responsibility as their skills grow.
Another advantage is that apprentices work towards recognised qualifications while building a strong CV. Employers often value practical experience, reliability, customer service and teamwork, all of which are developed through salon work. Apprentices learn how to communicate with different clients, manage appointments, keep the salon tidy and provide a professional service.
A hairdressing apprenticeship can also lead to many future opportunities. A qualified hairdresser may progress to senior stylist, colour specialist, barber, salon manager, freelance stylist or even salon owner. The industry is creative, social and constantly changing with new trends and techniques, which makes it exciting for someone who enjoys learning. Overall, an apprenticeship gives a school leaver the chance to gain qualifications, experience, confidence and career direction at the same time.
